A Cleaning Schedule that WORKS

Having a cluttered house is stressful. Not having time to clean your house can be even worse. We’ve all been there. You walk in the door after a long day of work only to have enough time to have a quick bite and walk back out the door.
The last thing on my mind when running out the door is cleaning. That is, until I can’t find something. This makes me crazy. This is also one of the reasons I do my best to follow a cleaning schedule. The chaos that ensues when something can’t be located results in creating an even BIGGER mess. No thanks.

Why Should You Have a Cleaning Schedule?
As with any profession, I have times throughout the year that are busier than others. The start of the school year, Thanksgiving, right before winter break, end of the year…these are the times I am the most challenged to keep up with the house cleaning.
If you find yourself short on time and running a million miles per hour to get it all done, having a cleaning schedule can help. I envy anyone who can simply overlook the mess and carry on with their day. I know plenty of people who can. However, if you are like me and hate to leave your house a mess, this post is for you.
How it Works
The weekends are when larger chores are completed in our house, but may vary for you based on your own schedule. Small daily chores reduce the amount of cleaning done on the weekends simply because there is little to no clutter to clean-up before getting started.
Also, divide and conquer.
Allow all able (although they may not be willing) family members to do their share. Highlight areas in different colors to indicate who is responsible for what. Not sure what chores to ask your child(ren) to help with? Read here to find out.
Having a clean house makes me feel calmer, more focused, and more productive. I’d like to share my list with you in hopes that it can help you feel the same. But first, let’s talk about cleaning products.

Kitchen
- Empty/reload dishwasher

Weekly Cleaning
Bedrooms
- Wash sheets
- Vacuum
- Dust
Bathrooms
- Disinfect countertops
- Disinfect toilet
- Disinfect bathtub
- Spray shower with mildew remover
- Mop floor
Kitchen
- Dry dust & mop floor

- Wipe down baseboards
- Clean cabinet doors in bathrooms and kitchen (I have white cabinets so I spray them down with Windex to remove dirt and grime)
